The allegorical floats and their masked groups will parade along the traditional route citizen Tivoli.
Children are happy to dress and pulling confetti, for adults is good to get away for a while routine and have fun.
Floats, costumed groups and music are the protagonists of this feast that boasts an important carnival tradition.

The departure is like every year from 15.30 from Piazzale Saragat.

Lenght: 2 hours. The Parco Villa Gregoriana is a thick woodland of gigantic trees, the remnants of ancient constructions, sheer precipices, steep rocks, small tunnels and natural caves – the parkland around Villa Gregoriana has it all! The park’s construction was commissioned by Pope Gregory XVI in order to rearrange the old bed of the river Aniene, which had been badly damaged by the terrible flood of 1826.

A destination of choice of travellers, poets, artists, royals and emperors throughout the centuries, the park was reopened to the public in 2005 thanks to a major relandscaping project orchestrated by FAI, the Italian National Trust.

Today, the park with its marvellous waterfalls, its caves and gorges, its extraordinary romantic garden is a model of integration between art and nature.

Acropolis of Tibur

To close the paths of Parco Villa Gregoriana, the Acropolis of Tivoli with its two Temples of the I-II century BC, known as the Temple of Vesta or Sibilla with a circular plan and Temple of Tiburno, with a rectangular plan, that, with their position, overlooking the valley of Hell. There were many pictorial representations of the site that linked the beauty of the ancient ruins to the sound of Aniene waterfall.

You can also visit the tomb of the Vestale Cossinia along the right bank of the Aniene river, overlooking the railway station. It was a tribute from the citizens to the Vestal who dedicated her life to the worship of the sacred fire.

Lenght: 3 hours. The Villa d’Este was built by the Cardinal Ippolito II D’Este, son of Alfonso I and Lucrezia Borgia, wanted the villa. It was committed to the architect Pirro Ligorio flanked by a lot of artists and artisans.
The interior is very intersting but the wonderful italian garden is the favourite destination of thousand visitors. Situated between terraces and slopes, it skilfully links the different declivities of the garden. Each fountain if fed without using mechanical contrivances but exploiting the natural pressure and the principal of communicating tubes.
The most famous fountains of Villa d’Este are The Cento Fontane (One Hundred Fountains) bording the long way (100 mt) that joins the Fontana dell’Ovato with the Rometta. Along the main street of the garden we can see the scenographic Fontana dei Draghi (Dragons’ fountain). At the end of the way, to the left, we can see the Fontana della Civetta (Owl’s fountain). The Fontana di Nettuno (Neptune Fountain) is the most impressive and scenographic of the villa because of the plenty of the water and the powerful jets throwing high squirts in the air. The Fontana dell’Organo (Organ Fountain) completes the scenography. Its name come from a special water mechanism that makes the organ play. In front of the Fontana di Nettuno (Neptune Fountain) there are in sequence the Peschiere (Fish Ponds).

Sounding fountain hour: the hydraulic organ of the Fontana dell’Organo is put in action every day from 10.30 every two hours.
